Ecto? What’s that?

20Sep05

Well, I saw some site recommend the use of Ecto for updating one’s blog. So I’m putting it through its paces. The editor reminds me of a basic thread editor one would find when posting to an online forum. However, with Ecto, the user edits the actual HTML of an entry, and as such, I cannot say it would be the recommended method of publishing entries for the novice user–or even someone who doesn’t know HTML for that matter. As I would rather edit the HTML source of anyways, it is not a source of complaint for me. The main benefit is it obviates the need to use a browser to edit or create entries since it is a dedicated desktop blogging application. Therefore, if you have more than one blog, it’s a convenient way to update all of them from one simple interface. Well, I should stop wasting time with Ecto and get back to work!

UPDATE: Well, it seems that Ecto was able to save the entry as a draft on the webserver, but it crashed with a nice error before I could actually publish the entry. Not cool. I’ve started the program back up again, and it is asking me to create my profile all over again! Ugggh! Maybe it’s not as good for the PC as it is for the Mac. Who knows?
