Camera/Laptop Bags

22Oct05

After never having a decent camera bag to house my Nikon D70, I finally went out and invested in a quality camera pack. Of course, knowing my personality, it wasn’t an easy decision, and I probably spent way too much time researching and deliberating on bags. In the end, the choices boiled down to three finalists which included the Lowepro Computrekker AW, Tamrac CyberPack 6, and the Kata R-103 (all of which have the ability to transport a camera with extra body, multiple lenses, accessories, and a laptop computer). Both the Computrekker AW and the CyberPack 6 received extremely favorable reviews from their respective owners. However, neither of them had everything that I was looking for. So, in the end, I decided to go with the Kata R-103 as shown below.

The owners of these bags raved of their excellent build, ergonomics, and design. The bag itself is made of 1000 denier Cordura which is highly water-resistant and extremely tough. In addition, it comes with a rain/sun cover to protect the bag against extreme wetness or heat. These features were really the two main points of concern I had with the previous packs. I loved the All Weather (AW) cover on the Computrekker, but I did not feel the bag material was as strong as the 900 denier Cordura used on the Tamrac CyberPack. The Kata R-103 bested both of them in each area with a dual-purpose cover to protect the bag against a deluge of rain or heat in addition to the extremely rugged 1000 denier Cordura. If those weren’t enough, I love the ability to access the camera without having to open up the entire bag. What a great idea! Now I just need to contain my excitement until the item actually arrives!
