Being a neophyte to the blogging world, I’m amazed if anyone takes the time to show any interest in what I write (which rarely happens). In fact, I’m even more amazed if someone actually manages to stumble upon my site. Other than being referred by some website I’ve happened to post on, I really don’t feel like my blog even registers on the radar, but hey, I guess that’s the joy of starting up a site. You get to watch it grow.
Much to my amazement, however, I’ve noticed that people have stumbled onto my site by means other than referrals from posts I’ve made on other sites. In many cases, I’m not exactly sure how the user was referred here from sites such as Technorati or other blog indexing sites. Nonetheless, sometimes I’m fortunate to see the search queries that brought someone to my site. When this happens, I absolutely love it. It’s interesting to see what visitors to the site are interested in, and sometimes it’s also quite funny to see what causes me to show up on the map.
Who’d have thought my entry “Stromboli-zilla” would have landed me some traffic? But sure enough, I’ve had people end up here after searching for “veal stromboli”. I got a pretty good laugh out of that. I’ve also gotten some traffic to the site from people searching for information on “getting around drm”. This query I’m sure was related to my Techno-tangent entry, and I’m sure those people weren’t too happy about ending up there. Afterall, that entry provides absolutely no useful information on circumventing DRM but, rather, simply discusses how the hackers always manage to get around it. Probably not what they were after. I won’t deny that I have grand delusions of my hacking skills (which are non-existent), but I’m certainly not the “DVD Jon” they were looking for.
Finally, I was pleasantly surprised and feeling a little vindicated about the last search query I’m going to mention. After going to a Barnes & Nobles in Raleigh, NC and paying $25 for three pre-paid connections from SBC Freedomlink, I was rather frustrated that my purchase did not function as advertised. In my entry entitled SBC Freedomlink… sucks, I wrote about my frustrations fully expecting no one to ever read it. I certainly never thought it would show up on Google, but I was wrong. Not only does it show up on Google, but a query for “freedomlink prepaid connections” lands me on the first page! This makes me hopeful that others might read what I wrote and think twice about using SBC Freedomlink at Barnes & Nobles, and maybe, it might prevent them from getting ripped off like I did. I’d be rather happy if that were the case.

And so ends another entry that I fully expect nobody will read or even care about. Who knows? Maybe at some point in the future I’ll find that people actually enjoy reading what I write here, or at the very least, enjoyed reading this very entry.

Bah! Forget about Google… even more important than that is being listed in Blogography’s blogroll!
Dave likes you! He really likes you! (where IS Sally Field when you need her?)
Awesome! I’ve never been blogrolled before! Wooohooo! Now it’s time to do the chicken strut from that movie Edtv. Ummm… let’s forget I just said that.
You’re too modest.
I find the Chaz highly entertaining.
My wife gave me your link. I think she got it from Dave’s “Blogography”. She knew I’d love this blog. That’s the great thing about having a wife that knows you so well. Love your site. Can I link you?
Thank you for the compliment. It’s always nice to know that people enjoy what you write (especially when you’re a “noob” like me). Sure, feel free to link to me. In fact, I find it flattering that someone likes what I write enough to link to me.
