It’s Travel Time

28Mar06

I’m happy to announce that I’ve survived. Yes, folks. I have survived. I’m guessing that I may have left some of you pondering just what sort of peril I have overcome; in short, I recently escaped the evil clutches of airline travel unscathed. I traveled home for Spring Break, and I sucessfully made the journey back as well. This is usually a ridiculously busy time of year to travel and can often be rather unpleasant due to layovers, missed connections, and loud/obnoxious/smelly people. This might all not be quite as bad if ticket prices weren’t outrageous, and given the tardiness of my ticket ordering, I was forced to order Southwest Tickets which were surprisingly cheap. There is, however, one serious drawback when it comes to traveling Southwest Airlines; there is no assigned seating!

Airport Downtime

One typically wouldn’t think this would be too much of a problem, but it’s really equivalent to asking a class full of immature, preschool students to find their own seat in a classroom full of desks. Nobody would expect that to go smoothly, and they shouldn’t expect this to be much better. You see… I have this theory that most adults are really oversized children without parental figures. So during the boarding process you spend lots of time waiting in line as those boarding the plane must evaluate every seat in an attempt to figure out exactly where he or she desires to be seated. It takes FOREVER! Whoever came up with this seating scheme (or lack thereof) should be shot! I mean, honestly, there is no benefit to not having a seating chart for the plane as it actually allows those who plan their trips in advance to be guaranteed good seats. That’s exactly how it should be! It also helps speed up the boarding process as people know exactly where they must go, and they can’t spend years trying to pick the perfect seat on the plane.

My Plane

Fortunately, however, not all my flights were completely filled, and this meant that on some flights I didn’t have to sit next to anyone! Score! This hasn’t been the case for me in a long, long, long time. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I flew and the plane wasn’t oversold and completely filled. So I am here to say that I lived, and I am still alive despite the paucity (and by paucity I mean no entries) of entries lately. In any case, I have lots of work tomorrow, and I need to get it done A.S.A.P. On a more positive note, my little brother will be visiting me tomorrow which should make for some good times, but there will be more on that later.
